Mountain Roads Retirement Community
(Raleigh County)
DRC Certification
Mountain Roads Retirement Community was the third West Virginia community to be awarded Designated Retirement Community status. This status was officially bestowed on Beckley-Raleigh County by Governor Bob Wise on December 6, 2001.
To become a Designated Retirement Community, a series of standards had to be met to ensure that the community provides the resources and amenities required to be considered a viable retirement destination. This designation gives communities an advantage over other non-designated areas around the state and qualifies commmunities to receive dollars through grant programs to help fund marketing and publicity for the new Designated Retirement Community.
The designation process included: gaining community wide support from local and state agencies, the business community, organizations and citizens; a community needs assessment; the development of promotional materials; a marketing plan; the development of a group of ambassadors; and organizing an evaluation committee.
Retirement Community Designation is a program of the West Virginia Retiree Attraction Task Force and is approved by the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services, the West Virginia Development Office, and the West Virginia Division of Tourism.
Congratulations to the Chamber's Retiree Attraction Committee for their efforts in completing the lengthy application process to obtain this elite status, and for giving Beckley-Raleigh County the opportunity to welcome you home to Almost Heaven - Mountain Roads Retirement Community.
